Meet the DBA Board Members
Randy Ostrander - DBA President
DBA President Randy Ostrander has lived in the Big Rapids area for over 35 years, where he met his wife and soul mate Nan. He is the Broker/Owner of Lake and Lodge Realty llc, which is located downtown in the back of Schuberg Insurance Agency. He has served as Chamber President, West Central Association of Realtors President, DBA President 2013-2016 and many committees for various groups as well as being a member of the Eagles and the Rotary Club of Big Rapids. Randy has a passion for seeing the Downtown flourish and is always seeking opportunities to help it grow. Randy and Nan spend a great deal of time visiting the DBA members in downtown Big Rapids and looking for ways to make it a better experience for those visiting and living in our community. Randy considers it an honor to serve the community and appreciates the way the people of Big Rapids supports one another. There's a vibe downtown you just don't find anymore and he loves being part of it.
Jon Coles serves as the Associate Athletic Director at Ferris State. Previously, he worked as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Big Rapids High School.
Jon’s primary responsibilities as Associate Athletic Director are oversight of community outreach and engagement, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, athletic communications, ticketing, marketing, sales, promotions, licensing, spirit groups, and game day management. He has also serves as a sport liaison for eight of the Ferris State’s 17 sports.
An active community minded individual, Coles has been heavily involved in a number of organizations and committees. Coles served the Big Rapids Jaycees, Paint Big Rapids Pink Committee, Big Rapids Community Tennis Association, Bulldog Beginnings Committee, Homecoming Committee, Campus Committee Task Force and others. He has chaired the Downtown Fall Festival Parade, 4th of July Parade and served as President of Big Rapids Community Tennis Association and Riverwoods Subdivision. He has also coached a variety of youth sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, and tennis
Jon is married to Dr. Emily Coles, owner of Big Rapids Family Eye Care. They have two boys: Carson (8) and Reid (5).
I have proudly worked at promoting tourism for Mecosta County and the greater Big Rapids for several years and in many forms. From opening and managing the Super 8 Motel when it was first constructed to helping with the construction, opening and overseeing operations of the County Inn & Suites. I have since been honored with being the Executive Director for the Mecosta County Convention & Visitors Bureau for nearly a dozen years now and am still excited to be promoting all of the great things we have here to experience, explore and enjoy!
Jennifer Heinzman – Executive Director, Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce
Jennifer has been the Executive Director of the Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce since 2011. Prior to relocating to Big Rapids, she served as the Executive Director of the Clare Chamber of Commerce for over 5 years. She has implemented several technological advancements during her time in Mecosta County, has served as a champion of the Broadband Certification process, has created several new programs and events for the community and led the Chamber to the Michigan Chamber of the Year, in the small chamber category, for 2016.
Jennifer earned her Master degree in Administration at Central Michigan University and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Mecosta County Habitat For Humanity, Big Rapids DBA, Mecosta County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Mecosta County Economic Development Corporation, Friends of Ferris, the Community Garden Project and several other committees. Jennifer is also active with the West Michigan Chamber Professionals, The Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals, Michigan Festivals and Events and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
Clinton was born and raised in Big Rapids. He graduated from Big Rapids High School, and attended Ferris State University for his pre-requisites, and then attended school in Mt Pleasant. He is a board certified Naturopath, and bodywork therapist. He built and grew his independent practice in Big Rapids and Ann Arbor, over that last 20 years. Clinton has lived and traveled to several places over the years such as New York, The Netherlands, and Ann Arbor. After years of living away from Big Rapids, and making short trips back to visit family, he decided to move back home and build his dream, Red Fox Market. Clinton feels he can offer a fresh perspective on events and event planning. He comes with a lot of life experiences, and a passion to see this community grow, thrive and connect even more.
Aaron Kuhn - City Treasurer, City of Big Rapids
As a recent resident of Big Rapids and graduate of Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business, Aaron’s focus has been on civic and community participation since he arrived. Aaron is the City Treasurer for the City of Big Rapids and is involved with various organizations around the community including the Big Rapids Jaycees and the Big Rapids Rotary Club. Aaron and his wife Sharon have the goal of making Big Rapids a better place for their family.
Originally from Lima Ohio, my family moved to Morley, Michigan in 2008 to be closer to my husband’s family. I’ve worked at The Pioneer Group for nearly 5 years, serving as Circulation Assistant, Circulation Manager and currently as Classified Sales Manager. Prior to The Pioneer Group, I spent my career in customer service and healthcare. I’m excited to serve on the DBA board, learn new things and meet new people
